'Premsak' urges 'Ung Ing' to resign to close the political vacuum!

'Premsak' states his position, urges the 'PM' to resign after the court orders him to stop performing his duties, asks not to think of it as a defeat but a sacrifice to close the political vacuum, slams political parties claiming the issue of dismissing the petition of collusion, senators think they should not take advantage

02 July 2025 - At the parliament, Dr. Premsak Piayura, Senator, announced the proposal of the senators after the Constitutional Court ordered Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, to stop performing his duties, saying that after this, the Prime Minister has 15 days to explain to the Constitutional Court, after which the court will consider until there is a ruling on whether to leave the position as the letter of impeachment or not. From now on, during the 90-day period, there will be a significant vacuum in the administration of the country. Civil servants who do not know whether the real Prime Minister will return to perform their duties or not may be in neutral in working to take care of the people, causing significant damage to solving the economic problems and the security problems that are simmering in Thailand and Cambodia. As a Senator, I would like to propose that the Prime Minister who was ordered to stop performing his duties sacrifice by resigning from his position to give the parliament an opportunity to check the votes to select a new Prime Minister, which will only have MPs who can select the Prime Minister. I believe that there are suitable persons who The MPs will support him to continue to serve as the Prime Minister for a while longer if he has managed the country and solved many pending issues sufficiently. He asked for the House to be dissolved and a new election to be held in the next step.

Dr. Premsak said that for the proposal to dissolve the parliament, he sees it as a problem that will create a greater vacuum than before because it will take no less than 4-6 months for the Election Commission (EC) to certify the election results, open the parliament, and elect a prime minister. Therefore, dissolving the parliament is unlikely to be the answer in the current political situation.

“It is a good opportunity for the Constitutional Court to use a ladder to step down from the prime minister without any impact. If this decision to sacrifice happens, it will help reduce the problem of protests. If the prime minister is still in office or is still in the process of accepting the position, the protests will expand and make our neighbor, Uncle Hun Sen, think about Thailand again or become a toy for Cambodia for nothing. The prime minister’s sacrifice will benefit the people. Various conditions will be eliminated by default. The opposition or some senators who will submit a motion of no confidence will cause the prime minister to lose legitimacy. Therefore, I would like to give the new government a chance to work during the time when the country is in crisis, both in terms of economic problems and security problems, so that it can move forward effectively. I would like the prime minister to consider the proposal to see if it will benefit the country more than waiting for the verdict because it will take no less than 2 months for the verdict to come out, compared to the case where the Constitutional Court ordered Mr. Settha Thavisin to be removed from the prime minister position,” said Dr. Premsak.

Regarding the opening of the Senate session this month, Dr. Premsak said that he asked that the meeting during this problematic situation, especially the Senate who have to fight the collusion case, postpone the selection of an independent organization because if there is still a case that may not have a good effect on the selection of individuals to hold positions, do not think that the majority will drag it out or that at this point, speed it up many times to end with the desired individual, and continue to exchange benefits in return. He had previously objected to holding positions in an independent organization, and he believed that this time there would be the same objection. Many people agreed that we would let it pass without anything happening because the Senate must protect the interests of the people.

When asked about the case where the Constitutional Court did not accept the petition of Mr. Nattaporn Toprayoon who filed to dissolve the Bhumjaithai Party, claiming that the EC and the EC Secretary-General did not select the senators honestly and fairly, Dr. Premsak said that according to the constitution and law, many parties claimed that doing so damaged the Constitutional Court. If we look at the court's verdict, we will see that the reason the petition was not accepted was because there was an organization responsible for this matter, which was the EC. It was not like they just waited for the court to accept it, so the petition was dismissed. He himself did not want members of parliament or political parties to claim which side was right in the outcome. In fact, we have to look at the content of the Constitutional Court's acceptance or rejection of the petition. We should not use this situation to take advantage of ourselves. He hoped that his proposal would be considered by the Prime Minister who sees the benefits of the country because it was not a matter of defeat. If he thought that way, there would be no sacrifice, which would cause the problem to continue to drag on.

"Please, for the sake of the country and the people, just sacrifice this. It will be an honor for you. The people will remember the good things that have happened from the Prime Minister. But if you stubbornly insist, it will only cause damage to the vacuum of the country that will be empty of a real Prime Minister for many more months," said Dr.
